One of our favorite foods before going vegan was chicken wings. In fact, every Tuesday night was family night at Buffalo Wild Wings to take advantage of that BOGO wing deal. So obviously, I had to find a way to re-create our favorite dinner with a healthy, vegan twist! Oh, and get this- it's also gluten free and loaded with protein!
Why did we choose to use chickpea flour over a seitan or soy substitute? Like I mentioned, the goal was to find a healthier, gluten free, yet still high protein option. The chickpea flour offered all of that while still providing that desired texture and being easy to form.
This is delicious when served with a vegan ranch or blue cheese dressing of choice. Our personal favorite is Daiya brand. Then serve with sliced fresh carrots and celery or veggies of choice and you have the ultimate game night meal!

Chickpea Wings
- 2 cups chickpea flour1-1/2 cup of water1 Tsp of vegan chicken salt
For the Sauce
- 1 cup Frank's Red Hot Sauce1/2 cup vegan butter of choice(amount can be changed depending on how saucy you like your wings)
Preparing the chickpea wings
In a large mixing bowl, mix in the chickpea flour and vegan chicken salt
Pour in the water a little at a time while stirring until you've reached a pancake mixture consistency
In a non-stick skillet on medium high heat, slightly oil the pan and then pour in mixture
Cook about 5 minutes or until you can flip the mixture over with your spatula without sticking
Cook an additional 2-3 minute on the other side
Immediately form into balls- a great tip for this is using wax paper to help roll and form
Place in the refrigerator for 30-45 minutes to cool and set up completely
Mixing in the sauce
Once the chickpea wings have completely set in the refrigerator, begin the sauce
Using the same skillet on medium heat, add in the hot sauce and butter and stir until mixed together
Add in the chickpea wings and turn on the heat to simmer until completely covered and warm
These are perfect for a quick dinner. Most of the prep work is setting up in the fridge. You could easily make these the night before and then just pop them in the skillet the next night for dinner. These work great for meal prepping!
